The highly acclaimed Wellensian Consort return to Simonsbath for a unique programme combining traditional folk song arrangements and contemporary uplifting choral masterpieces with a specially arranged suite from Marian Matthew's bold and electrifying new choral work Incredible Jewel.
Local composer Marian Matthews has set to music the poetry of fifth generation Exmoor farmer Michael Reed, adding life and vibrancy to the work with her immediately appealing musical style. After a triumphant premiere last year in Wells, Incredible Jewel comes ‘home' for its second performance.
Heralded as one of the UK's most talented and engaging chamber choirs, the Wellensian Consort and their conductor Christopher Finch came to national prominence in 2010 when they won the coveted title of Choir of the Year in association with BBC Radio 3. All the members of this elite choir studied at Wells Cathedral School before embarking on further study at the country's leading music colleges and universities.
Over the last few years, they have recorded two critically acclaimed CDs, broadcast internationally and performed at the UK's leading venues and festivals, including Cadogan Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cheltenham Festival and City of Derry International Choral Festival.
