Described as “one of the most passionate champions of rewilding”, Ben Goldsmith is a persuasive enthusiast who, for more than two decades, has thrown all his energies into trying to find ways in which we can co-exist with the land and the natural world.
His beliefs are at once personal and global, practical and visionary. Following the loss of his 15-year-old daughter in a tragic farm accident, he found solace in nature, discovering a renewed sense of purpose in the rewilding of the land around his Somerset home. As a financier he has proved a pioneer, investing for more than two decades in green industries. He is the co-founder of Nattergal which focuses on restoring large-scale ecosystems. He created the Conservation Collective, a global network of locally-rooted environmental foundations. He served as a non-executive director of DEFRA from 2018 to 2022. He is also the author of God is an Octopus and the host of the Rewilding the World podcast.
Goldsmith calls for a deeper humility before nature’s complexity, arguing that our role is not to manage or control, but to make space for life to return on its own terms.
