As part of the Simonsbath Festival 2012, the folk and community arts organisation Wren Music lead a project which included activities of a series of song study workshops, working with local schools and a talk on Folk Songs and Collectors on Exmoor.
The song study workshops looked at songs collected from local singers including Robert Parish of Exford and Capt Lewis of Minehead. The group looked at how the words fitted the tunes and made changes to arrive at a singable version of the songs. This aspect of the project is summarised in the Songs from the Exmoor Forest summary, and also available is a song study of the song James Macdonald together with a summary of the various  versions of the song words that were produced by the study group.
